Rembrandt’s World
May 11, 2019 to Sep 22, 2019
In this Rembrandt year, Teylers Museum is showing a selection of the finest etchings and drawings by the master and his pupils from the museum’s own collection. Through dozens of landscapes and cityscapes, visitors can look at the world through the eyes of Rembrandt, Jan Lievens, Roelant Rochman, Lambert Doomer, and Philips Koninck. Rembrandt’s World will be on view in the Print Room from 11 May to 22 September.
Rembrandt was a fabulously-gifted draughtsman and etcher of landscapes and cityscapes. He and his pupils made countless drawings and etchings of the landscape around Amsterdam. Some of their drawing expeditions went further afield: Rembrandt produced several drawings of Rhenen, while his pupil Doomer made a somewhat dreamy tour of France, drawing the scenery along the way. In Rembrandt’s World, the museum displays fifty highlights by Rembrandt and his circle.
Rembrandt and Holland’s Golden Age
In 2019 we are marking the 350th anniversary of the death of the Netherlands’ most famous artist. As a fitting tribute to Rembrandt, numerous museums throughout the Netherlands are organising exhibitions on his life and work.
