Teylers Museum seeks to serve society, in accordance with the ideals of the Enlightenment, by encouraging people to discover the world for themselves and to take pleasure from the arts and sciences. To achieve this, the museum sets out to persuade the public to visit the best-preserved 18th-century public institution for the arts and the sciences in the world. In the museum's historic building, the arrangement and presentation of objects are geared towards fostering an appreciation of their historical origins as well as the transfer of knowledge.
