Box and rack with 5 five tubes of fluorescent powder

1861

‘Glow in the dark’ objects, who doesn’t know them? This is about something officially called ‘phosphorescence’. This concept was originally linked to the green glow seen when white phosphor is exposed to air. Nowadays it denotes something else, that is the phenomenon of some substances that glow in the dark for a while after they have been exposed to light. This wooden box and this wooden rack contain glass vials with various fluorescent powders. In normal light they all look the same (white, white and white), but in the dark they glow in different colours. Which colour is emitted depends on the atomic structure of the substances concerned.
