Guided Tour Pieter Teylers House
Guided Tour Pieter Teylers House
Teylers Museum has a new wing: Pieter Teylers Huis, the former home of Pieter Teyler (1702-1778), the founder of the oldest museum in the Netherlands. Teyler's ideas come to life in the house. For example, he believed that every human being had the right to strive for freedom and happiness and that this would make the world a better place. Truth is only found by thinking for yourself, he thought. In Pieter Teyler's house, visitors can see the actuality of his ideals and how they led to the creation of Teylers Museum.
During an interactive tour, visitors get to the core of his ideas and discuss them. Who was the person behind the ideals and the museum? How relevant are his ideals today?
The tour lasts 60 minutes. Maximum 2 guided tours per hour. Please note that the first floor of Pieter Teylers Huis is only accessible by stairs.
